| Be one of only a handful of people in North
America to own a bike tire belt!
There are plenty of funky leather belts on the market, but killing for fashion
just isn't cool. If you want to go over the top and get noticed by everyone who
sees your belt, you need a belt that takes you off the beaten path. That's
exactly where a hard-worn bike tire is going to take you. Strap a bike tire
around your waste, and everyone will be wanting to have a look! It is important
to show the world that cruelty free fashion is exciting and fresh. And what
better symbol to use in promoting environmental sustainability and veganism than
a bike?
Oh, and since Downbound is the only retailer in North America to
carry these funky vegan belts, your friends aren't going to have the same belt
as you, unless you tell them where you got it (which actually we hope you do!).
But even if your friends do have another Velo-Re belt from us, it is guaranteed
to be completely different from yours, because each bike tire has its own story
and history, and none are the same. Each is handcrafted from a no-longer used
bike tire that has ridden the roads and off-roads of Europe. Hundreds of hours
of prefect riding history are built into the fabric of your unique vegan belt.
The tread of your special belt bears the scars of every mile, every skid, and
every stone.
Slick belts are made from back tires, which work harder and carry more weight and are more
threadbare. Semi-Slick belts are made from front tires, which get less wear, so still have plenty of tread left.

Velo-Re makes full use of the discarded and the superfluous, ending up with something that already has its own character.
Velo-Re was started by Christian Baumgartner, who made the original re-tired belts, after having been involved in a bicycle recycling project in Berne for years came up with the idea to reuse all of the old tires. Looking at old tires, with their scars and bruises, Christian came up with the idea to make belts out of them.
