This is our smallest organic hemp courier bag, but you'll be surprised by how much you can fit into this sleek hemp bag. It maintains its compact composure with an external zipper around the belly of the hemp bag, but that zipper can be unzipped to expand the hemp bag significantly. The internal hemp storage space measures approximately one foot long by over half a foot deep, when expanded. The external hemp cover flap contains a deep outside zipper pocket—perfect for small loose items, such as organic vegan snacks, coins, or flyers. Underneath the top flap, and outside of the main storage area, there is a deep hemp slot for file folders or magazines, and also a similarly sized zipper pocket for even more organizing ability. The organic hemp shoulder strap features a thick hemp shoulder pad, making this organic hemp bag extremely comfortable no matter how much you load it up with. Of course, this is another no-sweatshop item—like all Downbound products—and it is entirely vegan, containing no leather trim.

Manufacturer:

This sweatshop-free product is designed and manufactured by Ecolution using locally grown organic hemp. Ecolution is based in the democratic country Romania, where it owns its own organic hemp fields and processing facility, which operate under fair trade no-sweatshop guidelines. The employees that made this product are paid more than the Romanian average, are given opportunities for advancement within the company, receive medical and pension coverage, and work in a facility that is safe, well-lit, heated, and free of toxic chemicals. Ecolution does not employ children. In addition to showing utmost concern for its workers, Ecolution products are 100% vegan, containing no products from animal exploitation such as leather or wool.

Ecolution's organic hemp crops are grown in accordance with the European Union's organic certification regulations. Unlike most hemp fabrics, the fabric in this product was processed using a series of fine mechanical combings rather than heavy caustic sodas and acid rinses. Non-chemical processing is environmentally friendly, and preserves the integrity of the hemp fiber, which contributes to a strong and durable fabric. Ecolution has manufactured this product with rigorous attention to quality, so that the environmental impact of production and distribution can be spread over as many years of product life as possible. Hemp fabric is very resistant to degradation from mold, bacteria, salt water, sunlight, abrasion, and chemicals. At the end of this product's life, the organic hemp fabric is 100% biodegradable, unlike synthetic fabrics or tanned leather.

Ecolution uses environmentally friendly fiber-reactive and plant-based dyes. Fiber-reactive dyes contain no heavy metals or known toxic substances, and meet all European Union criteria for being environmentally friendly. Fiber-reactive dye molecules bond permanently with fiber molecules, significantly reducing the amount of dye entering the water system through production and home washing. Plant-based dies, such as Oak, Bilberry, Pansy, and Oregano are sourced locally from Romania, and are fixed using only environmentally friendly mordants such as blue stone, alum, salt, and vinegar. All of Ecolution's buttons are made from natural biodegradable materials such as uninhabited sea shells or tagua nuts that are collected by indigenous peoples from the Amazon rainforest. Even Ecolution's threads are selected only from first world factories that hold Oeko-Tex 100 Standard certificates for environmentally friendly production practices.
