Downbound.com is the first and only retailer in North America to carry AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble. Previously, there was only one vegan cat kibble brand available in North America, so this introduction is truly exciting. AMI GMO-Free Kibble Vegan Cat Food comes all the way from Italy!

Michele Ghezzo (AMI Founder)
About AMI

AMI's CEO, Emanuele Boccardo, and most of AMI's employees are vegetarian or vegan. AMI's founder, Michele Ghezzo, has been a vegetarian since 1983. He is primarily responsible for AMI's product research.

AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble is the result of over 15 years of university-based nutritional research, sponsored by Michele Ghezzo. His research into finding alternatives to animal-based pet food ingredients began in 1985 at the University of Bologna, and continued in the 1990s at the University of Padova. The current formulation of AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble was finally developed in 2001.

Prior to founding AMI in 2002, Michele Ghezzo was a professor of linguistics at the University of Padova. He is also the founder and president of the Franca Melchiori Fasan Foundation, which cares for and advocates on behalf of over 900 feral cats in Italy. Of course, all of these cats are fed AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble. Michele is also an official advisor to the Italian Parliament on matters relating to legislation that affects animals.

Ingredients Summary

Vegetable Protein Extracts, Cereals, Oils and Fats, Derivatives of Vegetable Origin, Brewers Yeast, Minerals, preserved with Vitamin E, Linoleic Acid, Arachidonic Acid, and Taurine.

Explanation of Ingredients

AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble is enriched with synthetically produced taurine. The long-term absence of taurine in a cat's diet can cause serious health problems, including death. Unlike humans and dogs, cats cannot synthesize taurine on their own, so they need a dietary source. Taurine is naturally found only in animal tissue, but the taurine supplemented in most "pet" foods is virtually always synthetic.

AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble is designed to be hypoallergenic, for animals with numerous food sensitivities. It contains no soy, dyes, artificial preservatives, or animal by-products. And all ingredients are certified to be GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) Free. AMI independently conducts laboratory tests on samples of all of its raw ingredients to confirm their GMO-Free status.

AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble has a higher protein content than Evolution "Gourmet Pasta" Vegan Cat Kibble (33% vs. 30%). And AMI's "Vegetable Protein Extracts" primarily consist of Corn Gluten Meal, which is more hypoallergenic than soy-sourced protein.

The "Cereals" that AMI uses are primarily corn and wheat flours. The "Oils and Fats" consist primarily of Corn Oil, which is rich in Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. The "Derivatives of Vegetable Origin" consist primarily of Beet Pulp, which is one of the most ideally suited sources of fibre for cats.

Feeding Instructions

AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble is 100% nutritionally complete for all life stages. There is no need to add additional supplements to this food. When first introducing AMI GMO-Free Kibble Vegan Cat Food to your cat, mix it with the food your cat is used to, increasing the quantity added gradually over several days. Easing your cat onto any new food will reduce problems with stomach upset as your cat's digestive system adjusts.

The Recommended Daily Intake amounts indicated above are calculated based on average food requirements. The actual amounts may change depending on the age, activity level, and temperament of your cat. AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble may be served either dry or lightly moistened with warm water. In addition to feeding your cat this kibble, always ensure a bowl of fresh water is available to him or her.

Scientific Testing

The 15 years of nutritional research sponsored by AMI's founder, Michele Ghezzo, involved zero animal subjects. All research conducted for the preparation of the AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble formula was strictly based on discovering the ideal non-animal nutrients to fulfill the known nutritional needs of cats.

Since launching AMI in 2002, a new university study has been embarked on to evaluate the actual results of cats in non-exploitive home settings eating AMI GMO-Free Vegan Cat Food Kibble. The results of this study will be available in 2007.

Excellent product April 14, 2007
Reviewer: Maud Johnstonbaugh from state college, PA United States
I've been feeding my cats with these vegan kibbles since several years now and are in very good health and shape. They love it a lot. During the transition with kibbles that still contained some meat, they were always eating the vegan kibbles first ! That says a lot !
