From its inception in 2003 through until its closure in 2010, downBOUND served over 10,000 individual customers from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and numerous other countries.
The products that downBOUND sold were brought together by one common thread: a desire for a better world. The slogan, “down the corporate ladder, down the food chain, down to earth,” represented the fact that all of downBOUND’s products were friendly to workers, animals, and the environment.
The wide selection of socially responsible products that downBOUND offered included bags, books, clothing, coffee, cosmetics, crafts, documentary films, fashion accessories, food for dogs and cats, food for people, furniture, music, nutritional supplements, rope, shoes, stationery, and more—over 1,000 unique inventory items in total.
Although downBOUND didn’t ultimately succeed, its vision for a kinder, healthier, and more sustainable world lives on.
